SAN JOSE, Calif. — Prosecutors have charged a previously convicted arsonist with 13 felonies for allegedly setting a series of fires in Silicon Valley's largest city.
Patrick Brennan was charged Friday with 10 counts of arson and three counts of attempted arson for the string of fires near downtown San Jose during his arraignment in Santa Clara County Superior Court. He has a previous criminal record for arson in California as well as out of state,
Prosecutors say the San Jose fires caused more than $6 million in damage.
The 48-year-old Brennan was arrested on Wednesday for the arsons that began Jan. 8 and included a five-alarm blaze at a warehouse, a church and a home whose elderly owners barely got out alive.
Prosecutors say Brennan could serve multiple life terms in prison if convicted for the fires. He did not enter a plea and is being held without bail.
