A TOAST TO PROHIBITION

Tuesday-Sunday: Rose Ensemble celebrates Minnesota's love/hate relationship with the bottle. This semi-staged performance , complete with period sets and costumes, features the songs and stories of the 19th-century temperance movement, balanced by bar tunes and anti-Prohibition songs. The production uses narration from F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" and projections of historical images. Special guests Maria Jette and Dan Chouinard (piano and accordion) capture the musical diversity of the era, from Victorian waltzes to 1920s jazz, from Irish reels to gospel. The week of performances at the Minnesota History Center coincides with the exhibit "American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition." (7:30 p.m. Tue.-Thu., 2 p.m. Sat. & next Sun., Minnesota History Center, 345 W. Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, $27-$22, 651-259-3015, minnesotahistorycenter.org)
