New Ceramics by Fellowship Winners

Opening Friday: For a small, specialized organization, the Northern Clay Center has an unusual number of fellowships and grant programs offering creative opportunities for young and mid-career artists. Seven winners of four different grant programs will show their new work in two shows. That includes earthenware pottery with narrative motifs by Josh Stover and figurative sculpture by Kevin Rohde (whose "Chrysalis" is shown here). Colleen Riley and Adam Gruetzmacher produced functional pieces including mugs and vases while Michael Arnold created pots from native Minnesota clay, Karen McPherson turned out earthy plant pots and Ginny Sims focused on decorative majolica. The Fogelberg Studio Fellowship, the Red Wing Collectors Society Foundation Award, the Anonymous Potter Studio Fellowship and the Jerome Foundation supported their fun. (Reception 6-8 p.m. Fri. Free. Northern Clay Center, 2424 E. Franklin Av., Mpls. Ends March 2. 612-339-8007 or www.northernclaycenter.org)
