Thanks to the getaway pickup failing to start, one of three suspects who terrorized tellers during an armed bank robbery in Blaine was cornered by police in a nearby fast-food bathroom that was splattered with incriminating red dye from the stolen loot, according to a federal indictment.

Tearise B. Baugh, 23, of Brooklyn Park, and his accomplices held up the TCF Bank branch on Dec. 13 on County Road 10 near 87th Lane NE., according to the indictment filed Monday in federal court in Minneapolis.

The other suspects remain at large.

According to the indictment:

Baugh and two men ordered everyone in the bank to the floor.

Baugh pointed a handgun at the heads of the tellers. Baugh jumped over the counter, as did an accomplice, and both grabbed cash from the tellers' drawers.

The third suspect zip-tied the bank manager's hands behind his back "and controlled the rest of the occupants in the lobby."

The three ran out to a waiting pickup truck, but it failed to start, sending the trio fleeing on foot.

Baugh dashed into a nearby Arby's during dinnertime and locked himself in the bathroom, the indictment continued.

Police arrived and arrested him, finding dye-stained money in the toilet and the trash can.

Authorities said the robbers — for a brief time, at least — made off with more than $5,800.

Baugh admitted to his role in the holdup and threatening the bank employees with a gun, the indictment said.

Court documents show that Baugh's criminal history includes felony convictions for theft, carrying a weapon without a permit and drug possession.
