- January 11, 2014 - 10:46 PM
6 p.m. Sunday and Monday in State College, Pa.
TV/radio/live stream: No TV on Sunday, BTN on Monday; 1500-AM both nights. Gophersports.com on Sunday and BTN2Go.com on Monday.
Gophers at a glance: The Gophers (13-2-3, 3-0-1 Big Ten) quickly recovered from a hiccup last Friday to re-establish themselves as college hockey’s No. 1 team. The first weekend after nearly a month off also sparked forwards Travis Boyd and Kyle Rau. The pair combined for seven points after going into a bit of a lull before the winter break. Shuffling up the lines also benefited the Gophers and should be expected again this weekend. It’s the third Big Ten home opener the Gophers will be a part of. It will also be the program’s first trip to the new Pegula Ice Arena and first meeting with Penn State.
Nittany Lions at a glance: Penn State (4-10-1, 0-2-0), a second-year program, has won just one game since Nov. 14, during which it played seven ranked teams in eight games. A bye last weekend allowed the Nittany Lions plenty of time to prepare for the Gophers and their first-ever Big Ten home game. They haven’t played at Pegula Ice Arena in 41 days and are coming off an 8-2 loss to No. 5 Boston College.
