HURLEY, Wis. — A company looking to build a huge iron mine near Mellen is planning a second round of personal meetings with the public to explain its plans.
Gogebic Taconite officials plan to make stops in Hurley, Saxon, Ashland and Mellen on Wednesday. People can set up appointments with them to discuss the mine.
The mine project has been one of the mostly hotly debated environmental issues Wisconsin has grappled with in years. Gogebic Taconite officials say personal meetings protect participants from being intimidated at public hearings by what they call politically motivated groups.
Gogebic Taconite ran a similar round of personal meetings in November.
