TV picks for Jan. 2: "Parenthood,” "Community,” "Toned Up”

I have mixed feelings about the return of “Community” (7 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11). Yes, it’s great to see most of the gang back together (including fired/rehired creator Dan Harmon). But the zany nature that made the sitcom once so special seems to have run its course. Let’s hope that first impressions are wrong and that “Community” can get back to grade-A television.
Things look particularly shaky for Joel and Julia on “Parenthood” (9 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11), but the most poignant moments on this new episode come courtesy of Ray Romano as his character, Hank, realizes just how much he has in common with antisocial Max. He may not belong with Sarah Braverman, but he certainly would fit right in as a full-time regular on this underappreciated series.
We can work it out
Looking for a new gym? Try the Web-based one run by Katrina Hodgson and Karena Dawn on “Toned Up” (9:30 p.m., Bravo), a new series that’s as much about female bonding as it is about using yoga to trim off those extra pounds you gained over the holidays.
