Rosemount is in line for nearly $1 million for downtown housing while Burnsville gets left in the cold.

Then again, Rosemount was seeking to fulfill a need for affordable housing for seniors while Burnsville sought a like amount to provide a parking garage for a hotel.

The two cities were among three suburban contestants for the millions in public funds doled out each year by the Metropolitan Council.

Maplewood is in line for $1.9 million for up to 165 units of affordable housing and other elements in a project designed to stimulate additional development near Frost and English Streets.

The two projects have only committee approval, but full council agreement next month is usually routine.

Rosemount's $942,000 subsidy is less than Burnsville sought for a parking deck that would serve a new Hilton Garden Inn and other Heart of the City visitors. The council has lots already invested in that urban village.
