gophers gameday

8 P.M. VS. NEBRASKA OMAHA • WILLIAMS ARENA • 8 P.M., 1500-AM

Gophers at a glance: The Gophers are coming off a 10-day break and are looking ahead to another week without games following this one against the Mavericks. Junior Andre Hollins has a good chance to hit the 1,000-point mark for his career, one game after senior Austin Hollins did it against South Dakota State. The elder Hollins had a career game on his way to making history, finishing with 20 points and 14 rebounds against the Jackrabbits. The younger Hollins is only seven points shy of the milestone at 993 points. … Elliott Eliason also had a double-double against the Jackrabbits, one game after playing only four minutes due to a tweaked left ankle. The center finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Nebraska Omaha at a glance: With four players from Minnesota, the Mavericks (8-3) actually represent the state better than the Gophers, who have just one (Joey King). Mike Rostampour from Henry Sibley, Marcus Tyus from Anoka and Simon Krych from St. Cloud Apollo and Jake White from Chaska (a transfer from Wichita State's Final Four team who is redshirting this season) all hail from the state. In the past seven games, Tyus, filling in for injured guard Justin Simmons, has averaged 11.6 points per game while shooting 60.4 percent from the floor with 13 three-pointers. … The fast-paced Mavericks —who are No. 8 in the country in pace of play, according to Kenpom.com after being No. 1 last year — are coming off an 82-80 victory at Nevada, their fifth victory in a row. Among their losses was an 83-75 loss at Iowa on Nov. 10.
