Details: The developer of the 153-unit Arbor Lakes Senior Living assisted living complex in Maple Grove's gravel mining area has received development-stage approval from the city for a 46-unit memory care facility next door.

Lilydale-based Southview Senior Living is proposing a two-story structure on a one-acre "outlot" adjacent to the current facility north of the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes lifestyle center.

A project narrative submitted by Harriss Architects indicated that Southview originally had planned a "transitional care" building for the site, but has since switched to a memory care facility "due to the tremendous demand" for those services.

Memory care communities provide specialized services in secured environments for residents with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

The new building will include 36 studio and 10 one-bedroom units, community dining and activity spaces, a commercial kitchen, two solariums, four spas and nursing stations.

Its exterior design will closely mirror that of the existing facility, utilizing similar brick facing, cast stone and fiber composite siding, and will feature towers above the central entrance and at the corners.

Also included are 28 underground parking stalls intended mainly for staff and visitors.
