WATERTOWN, Wis. — Maranatha Baptist Bible College has changed its name to Maranatha Baptist University, saying its previous name led to confusion because the Watertown school isn't a traditional Bible college.

A Watertown Daily News report ( ) says Baptist University offers 31 majors through the College of Arts and Sciences. It has music, business and education programs in addition to the College of Bible and Church Ministries.

University President Marty Marriott says the school has defined itself as a Baptist Bible college for more than 40 years. But he says it's more than that, and the name needs to reflect that.

He says the school's mission and Baptist influences won't change.

School officials are asking the student body for suggestions for a new mascot.
