Letter of the Day (Dec. 8): Football violence
- December 7, 2013 - 4:51 PM
I appreciated Peter M. Leschak’s commentary on football (“Hands clean?,” Dec. 1), which describes how apologists for football, like defenders of “Grand Theft Auto,” think violence can be compartmentalized. Who are these defenders and apologists? Are they the same people who believe it’s easy to compartmentalize the use of guns, or drugs and alcohol? Being desensitized can lead to improper use, and football is just one example of compartmentalized violence with the potential to spill into the workforce, traffic on the road and even into our relationships. It is delusional to think we can separate from behavior we see and hear over and over again. Being aware is paramount.
