Learn ways to prevent teenage drug abuse

Parents are invited to attend an informational session on preventing teen drug abuse to be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 7401 County Road 101 in Maple Grove.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and Partnership for Change will provide informational speakers, and the Scheig family of Maple Grove, which recently lost a son to a drug overdose, will share their story.

Indoor farmers market is set for Thursday

The Maple Grove Farmers Market will be open inside the Maple Grove Community Center from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Twenty-seven vendors will be selling goods that include farmstead meats, eggs, honey and maple syrup, canned jams and sauces, wild rice, Lebanese and Eastern European specialties, cheese, apples, and a wide variety of artisan baked goods.

Music will be provided by jazz artist Laura Underwood.

Another indoor market will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, from 3 to 6 p.m.

The community center is located at 12951 Weaver Lake Road.

RICHFIELD

This 'Nutcracker' is designed for kids

Barbi Lee Dance Arts of Edina will present its 25th annual "Children's Nutcracker" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at Richfield Middle School, 7400 Oliver Av. S. in Richfield.

The performances are "child-friendly" — just an hour long, according to Barbi Lee's Barb Lotsberg.

Tickets are $10; call 952-935-2299 for group discounts. Those attending are also encouraged to bring donations for area food shelves.

Edina

Callison will speak at Rotary on Thursday

Hennepin County Commissioner Jan Callison will be the speaker at the Thursday, Dec. 5, Rotary Club of Edina meeting.

Callison will talk about "Counties: Minnesota's Invisible Level of Government." The event is at the Edina Country Club from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Admission, including lunch, is $18.

Callison has represented District 6 since 2009. She previously was mayor of Minnetonka.

Apply now for Rotary Club grants

Now is the time to apply for grants from the Edina Rotary Foundation, which will decide on money awards early next year.

Information and applications can be found at www.edinarotary.org. Applications must be in by Dec. 31.

Choral Society's holiday concert is Sunday

The Minnetonka Choral Society will present a holiday concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Church of St. Therese, 18323 Minnetonka Blvd. in Deephaven.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for students age 17 and younger. They are available at www.minnetonka choralsociety.org or can be purchased at the door.
