'Planes' manages to get off the ground

A plucky crop duster (voice of Dane Cook) desperately wants to compete in an international air race and prove he's capable of achieving great speed in "Planes." This pleasant yet bland DisneyToon Studios production is a spinoff of Pixar's "Cars" and its sequel, "Cars 2."

"Planes" features genuinely exhilarating scenes, and its message about pursuing big dreams — the only kind of dreams, by the way, that a crop duster with people eyes can have — is unobjectionable. But the film also is uninspired.

The DVD and Blu-ray (Disney, $30-$50) include deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes and a look at the 10 greatest aviators in history, hosted by ESPN's Colin Cowherd.

Add wallet to phone

Otterbox always seems to have phone accessories that stick out from the rest. Its newest is the Commuter Wallet phone case ($45, www.otterbox.com).

The multifunctional case for the iPhone 5 and 5S and the Samsung Galaxy S4 protects the devices as well as any case on the market, if not better. But what takes it to the next level is a sliding compartment for a few credit cards or driver's license.

It makes your phone a little bulkier but when you consider that you eliminated your wallet, it's a pocket space saver.
