Area churches in Carver County have teamed up with a Chanhassen fitness company to provide turkeys to needy families at Thanksgiving. The churches are working with Chanhassen Fitness Revolution, which will hold a group workout that's free to anyone who brings a frozen turkey.

The turkeys and other food will be given to families in the area as determined by Love INC, a partnership of 25 local churches. Some of the turkeys also will go to St. John's Lutheran Church in Chaska for its annual Thanksgiving community dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

Organizers say the event, called the "turkey burner workout," began in 2010. The previous record is 76 donated turkeys, and this year's goal is 100.

Justin Rule, president of Chanhassen Fitness Revolution, said the group workout is a fun event that's open to everyone in the community and is suitable for all ages.

It will occur Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Chaska Community Center, 1661 Park Ridge Drive.
