Good fits for twins

Five players the Twins should look at, according to La Velle E. Neal III (no Johan Santana, because of his shoulder questions):

1. Ervin Santana, RHP: Sub-4.00 ERA and at least 211 innings in three the past four seasons. He is reliable, durable and what the Twins need in their rotation. The Twins have indicated that they are willing to give up a second-round pick as compensation.

2. Scott Kazmir, LHP: The Twins saw up close that Kazmir is healthy and has figured things out. In five starts vs. the Twins, Kazmir went 3-0 with a 1.45 ERA. And he is only 29, so he would be a fit for the present and future.

3. Ubaldo Jimenez, RHP: He has the one thing the Twins don't have in their rotation: the ability to strike people out (although he will walk a few batters, too). He went 9-5 with a 2.40 ERA over his last 20 starts, stepping up to help the Indians reach the postseason.

4. Jhonny Peralta, 3B/SS/LF: Twins should look to give Trevor Plouffe some competition. Peralta could begin the season at third as the bridge to Miguel Sano, then move to the outfield or short. Has served his PED suspension, so he should be motivated to have a good season.

5. Corey Hart, 1B/OF: If his surgically repaired knees allow him to play first base, he could bring some pop to the Twins lineup; averaged 29 HRs from 2010 to 2012 for Brewers. He has also played in a few postseason games, and the Twins lack players with a winning background.
