Gophers women's hockey wins 58th consecutive game

The Gophers women’s hockey team kept the pressure on Minnesota State Mankato the entire game en route to a 4-1 WCHA victory at Ridder Arena on Friday.
The Gophers (9-0, 5-0 WCHA) outshot the Mavericks 52-14 while earning their 58th consecutive victory.
Rachel Ramsey had a goal and an assist and Sarah Davis and Kelly Terry each had two assists for the Gophers, who defeated the Mavericks for the 17th consecutive time.
Ramsey and Brook Garzone scored in a 4½-minute span in the second period to give the Gophers a 3-1 lead.
Ramsey’s power-play goal with 7:28 left broke a 1-1 tie. The Gophers had a 35-9 advantage in shots on goal with 6:15 left in the second period.
Garzone’s goal with 3:03 left in the second period — her first goal of the season — gave the Gophers a 3-1 lead. Davis assisted on both of the Gophers’ second-period goals. Ramsey also had an assist on Garzone’s goal.
Dani Cameranesi’s power-play goal with 11:08 left in the third period extended the Gophers lead to 4-1.
The Gophers outshot the Mavericks 22-4 in the first period, but it ended with the score tied 1-1.
The Gophers took a 1-0 lead with 3:04 remaining in the period on a goal by Kate Schipper.
The Mavericks tied the scored on a power-play goal by Tracy McCann with two seconds left in the period.
Mavericks goalie Daniella Butters had 48 saves. Gophers goalie Amanda Leveille had 13 saves. Leveille has allowed just 12 goals in nine games this season.
