KENOSHA, Wis. — In a story Oct. 23 about two Wisconsin Department of Corrections employees charged with sexual assault after having consensual sex with a male inmate, The Associated Press reported erroneously that the women were prison guards. One was a nurse, and the other was a medical program assistant.
A corrected version of the story is below:
2 Wis. prison employees accused of inmate sex assault
2 female Wisconsin prison workers are charged with having consensual sex with male inmate
KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) — Two female prison workers who allegedly had consensual sex with a male inmate are charged with sexual assault.
A Kenosha News report (http://bit.ly/HeYUM3) says the women are both charged with second-degree sexual assault by correctional staff.
Thirty-three-year-old Lisa M. Hawkins of Salem also is charged with obstructing officers, and 40-year-old Karina Herrera of Kenosha faces an additional charge of delivering illegal articles to an inmate.
Prosecutors say Herrera gave a cellphone to an inmate, and a later review of the phone found images of the two involved in sexual activity. The criminal complaint says there's also video of Hawkins sexually involved with him.
Hawkins's defense attorney, Christopher Rose, says the case is based on circumstantial evidence, and his client will plead not guilty. Herrera's attorney did not immediately return a message.
