Sam Warning promised the Gophers wouldn't start slow on Saturday night. The Gophers gave up a goal 3:35 into Friday's series opener with Bemidji State and picked up five penalties within the first 14 minutes of an eventual 6-3 victory.

"Not sure if it's the first game on the road, but we happened to start a little slow, but tomorrow we won't start slow," Warning said.

If the second period was any indication on how fast this year's team can make adjustments, Warning's prediction should hold true. The Gophers played last night's second period penalty-free.

Senior co-captain Nate Condon considered last night's highs and lows as good learning experiences for the younger Gophers.

"It was a very up and down game. The beginning of the game they scored, then we scored. A couple times everyone answered back and forth," Condon said. "It was a fun game and I think it made for a good learning game for a couple of the young guys."

The Gophers' quick response to Bemidji's first and third goals ruined the Beavers' night. Coach Tom Serratore said this was the difference in the game.

"They did answer back quickly, but that's the sign of a good team," Serratore said. "They're balanced. They're a skilled team. They're a fast team. They put a lot of heat on us."
