UND upsets No. 1 Miami (Ohio)

NORTH DAKOTA 4, MIAMI (OHIO) 2: UND upset the No. 1-ranked RedHawks (2-1) in Oxford, Ohio, in the first National College Hockey Conference game ever played. The visitors, No. 6 in uscho.com's national rankings, took a 3-0 lead, scoring twice in the opening period on goals by Michal Parks and Mark MacMillan and again 74 seconds into the middle period. Brendan O'Donnell got that third goal, the eventual winner, unassisted. Zane Gothberg made 35 saves for UND (2-0-1).

MINNESOTA STATE 2, CONNECTICUT 1: Teddy Blueger and Dylan Margonari scored goals and Stephon Williams made 16 saves as the Mavericks won at home.

BOSTON COLLEGE 9, WISCONSIN 2: Austin Cangelosi scored two goals, 50 seconds apart in the middle of the opening period, to get the Eagles going to a rout of the No. 2-rated Badgers in Chesnut Hill before an announced crowd of 7,008. The lead grew to 7-0 in the second period before Michael Mersch scored for Wisconsin at 14:45 of the second. Nic Kerdiles had the other Badgers' goal in the third period. No. 7 BC had a 49-21 advantage in shots on goal.

MICHIGAN 1, NEW HAMPSHIRE 1 (OT): Tyler Motte's power-play goal in the opening period gave the visiting Wolverines a 1-0 lead. Nick Sorkin of the Wildcats tied the score at 1:49 of the second and that was it for goals.

MASSACHUSETTS 3, MICHIGAN STATE 1: Greg Wolfe scored the Spartans' only goal, in the middle of the third period, in their season opener. Brandel Gracel had two goals for host UMass, the second an empty-netter.
