College: Attended Kansas for three years and graduated from Kansas State in 1994.
Coaching experience: He returned to his high school as an assistant coach, then moved on to Santa Fe Trail (Kan.) High School as a math teacher and assistant coach. Kill hired him to coach the defensive line at Saginaw Valley (Mich.) State in 1995. Claeys followed Kill to Emporia State, Southern Illinois and Northern Illinois before they came to Minnesota for the 2011 season.
