So that’s why there was a camera crew hanging around First Ave in April.
Trampled by Turtles announced details today of their new album and DVD combo, “Live at First Avenue,” which was culled from April’s sold-out, three-night 10th anniversary marathon at Minneapolis' sorta-well-known club. It’s due for release Nov. 12, with pre-orders already in full swing via the TBT site. Among the different order options are a $35 vinyl bundle and $30 CD package that comes with the DVD and a limited edition, 64-page book of photos from the shows by Chicago shooter Zoran Orlic.
The LP and CD feature 11 tracks, including at least one apiece from each of their six studio records plus their frequently played remake of the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?” Here’s the full tracklisting for the album:
Midnight on the Interstate / Burn for Free / Stranger / Codeine / Where Is My Mind? / Gasoline / Wait So Long / New Orleans / Drinkin’ in the Morning / Bloodshot Eyes / Again
The DVD features eight more songs not on the record, including the gaping omission “Alone,” plus “It’s a War,” “Feet & Bones,” “Empire” and a cover of Ronnie Lane and the Faces’ “Ooh La La.”
Sort of the beginning of the end of their tour cycle behind last year’s breakthrough album, “Stars and Satellites,” that three-night First Ave stand pretty clearly found Trampled firing on all cylinders after a year of steady touring. It proved to be a truly Minnesotan affair, too, from the fact that a snowstorm broke out before opening night (thanks, Prince!) to the 16 other local bands who got to soak up some of the TBT spotlight that week. Here’s my review from the first of those three shows.
It was also clearly something of an emotional high for the band, as is spelled out in the video teaser posted below.
