Mudslides overnight following heavy rains in Winona County caused some road closings Saturday for a few hours.

Hwy. 61 was closed between 2:30 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. after a series of mudslides trapped a semitrailer truck.

Downed trees and mudslides affected County Roads 15 and 17 as well, and County Road 15 closed for a time.

Michael Peterson of Winona County Emergency Management said the shoulders of some county roads are damaged and motorists should use caution.

"The streams are back within their banks and flooding has currently subsided," Peterson said in an e-mail Saturday morning.

The downpour caused flash floods in some parts of southeastern Minnesota, dropping 2 to 6 inches of rain across the area, according to the National Weather Service.

Multiple streets were flooded in Goodview and Winona. Lightning struck a power pole in Winona, which then crashed on three buildings and caught fire, according to public safety officials.

More thunderstorms were in the forecast.
