BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. — A 20-year-old western Wisconsin man told investigators he fatally shot his father and burned his body because his dad inflicted physical and emotional distress on him, according to a criminal complaint filed against the son.
Lars Helgeson told authorities he killed his 57-year-old father, Brian Helgeson, because he was "imprisoning him" at the house they shared in the town of Hixton and he was "just sick of all of it," the complaint said.
Helgeson is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent. A Jackson County judge denied bail for Helgeson, the La Crosse Tribune reported (http://bit.ly/GAKoO4 ).
Prosecutors said Helgeson followed his father outside of their house Sept. 16 or Sept. 17, shot him in the hand, the back and twice in the head before burning his body and burying it on their property. A family member reported Brian Helgeson missing Sept. 23 after not hearing from him.
When authorities went to check on Brian Helgeson, no one was home at the town of Hixton residence, but authorities discovered several weapons in the house, including an AK-47 rifle, other guns and a crossbow, according to the complaint.
An extensive search for Lars Helgeson was launched and he was apprehended near the property Sept. 25. Court records no not list a defense attorney for Helgeson.
