A public memorial service for Anarae Schunk will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center, 12600 Nicollet Av. S., Burnsville.

The 20-year-old University of Minnesota student's body was found Monday in a roadside ditch near Lonsdale, Minn. She disappeared Sept. 21 after going to meet her ex-boyfriend, Shavelle Chavez-Nelson, 31, and was later seen on video surveillance going into Nina's Grill in Burnsville. Chavez-Nelson, 31, is accused of fatally shooting a man outside the bar about 2 a.m. Sunday.

His girlfriend, Ashley Conrade, 24, is charged with aiding an offender for allegedly harboring him until his arrest on Sept. 24. Conrade told police that after the shooting, she, Chavez-Nelson and Schunk returned to her townhouse, where Schunk's trail ended.

"Anarae was a caregiver," her family said Wednesday in a statement. "She was passionate about others. She had a sharp wit. She believed in the good of humanity. Anarae was also stubborn, but she is a Schunk, so this goes without saying."

Donations to help the family with funeral costs can be sent or taken to any U.S. Bank, care of the Anarae Schunk Fund.
