A St. Paul police officer was back at work Friday after he was injured during a high-speed chase.

Officer Ryan Anderson, who is assigned to the police's Central District, was slashed under his eye by a road sign after he crashed into a median Wednesday night while pursuing a vehicle.

About 7 p.m. Wednesday, Anderson and his partner were chasing a stolen vehicle that was traveling at speeds of up to 80 mph on Dale Street near Maryland Avenue. The chase led to Energy Park Drive, where the stolen vehicle went the wrong way into ongoing traffic. As Anderson swerved to stay in the right side of the road, he struck a median which caused a road sign to go through his open window and cut him in the face.

The chase was called off, but the suspect was arrested later that night at a local bar.

Anderson was treated at Regions Hospital for the 1.5 inch cut under his left eye and is doing fine, said Sgt. Paul Paulos, a spokesman for the St. Paul police.
