Residents are back in their homes in St. Paul's North End neighborhood after a gas line leak Wednesday morning forced their evacuation.

Patti Nystuen, a spokeswoman for Xcel Energy said they received a report at 10:12 a.m. of a gas leak after city workers struck a 2-inch mainline.

About 30 people were evacuated and roads were blocked around Arlington Avenue and Farrington Street as a precaution, according to the St. Paul Fire Department. Adjacent streets were also closed.

Xcel Energy had shut off gas in the area by 11:30 a.m. No gas readings were found in any homes and no injuries were reported.
