TWINS UPDATE

Eric Fryer's home run Wednesday helped him become the sixth player to homer in his Twins debut, the first since Luke Hughes in 2010. Twins rookies have combined for 31 home runs this season, the most since the 1999 crew hit 42. … Correia will make his fourth attempt to win his 10th game of the season. If he does, it will be the fifth consecutive season in which he has reached double-digit victories. With four more innings pitched, Correia will have reached 171⅓ for the season, the second-highest total of his career. … Twins hitters not named Joe Mauer are batting only .143 against Moore. Brian Dozier is the only current Twins player to have homered against Price.

RAYS UPDATE

Tampa Bay, fighting for a wild-card spot, swept the Twins in a four-game series July 8-11 at Tropicana Field, with Rays starters posting a 2.25 ERA. The Twins face two pitchers from that series this weekend in Archer and Moore. Archer, a rookie, has stabilized the Rays rotation but has failed to pitch longer than four innings in each of his past two starts. Moore missed all of August because of a sore elbow, but the All-Star has picked up where he left off, giving up one earned run over his two starts this month. … Former Twins reliever Jesse Crain was having the best season of his career when he was traded from the White Sox to Tampa Bay on July 29, but his shoulder problems have knocked him out for the rest of the season. He never pitched for the Rays.
