MOORHEAD, Minn. — Students at Moorhead High School are learning a painful lesson about proofreading after a typo landed right on their yearbook's cover.

To make it extra painful: the name of the city was misspelled as "Moorehead."

School officials said the mistake got past an adviser and two classes of students who worked on the yearbook last year. It was sent off this summer to be printed at Josten's, and hundreds of copies arrived at the school this week, The Forum of Fargo reported (http://bit.ly/1fDNDhX ).

"They proofed the book and the cover, and they missed it," district spokeswoman Pam Gibb said. "I don't know that there's much we can do now. It's a mistake, and it was made."

Gibb said the district can't afford to reprint the yearbooks, which cost about $20,000 to produce. School officials said they're discussing using an adhesive label to cover up the mistake.

Moorhead High School Principal Dave Lawrence said he shares the blame because he didn't proofread the yearbook last year when he was assistant principal.

Students had mixed reactions.

"Well, it's just kind of common. Sometimes you think of 'more' as in 'm-o-r-e' and you'd think there's an 'e' at the end," sophomore Emily Otto said.

"I just think it's really weird that they misspelled the town that they live in," sophomore Jason Wentzell said.
