OSHKOSH, Wis. — A man and woman who robbed a liquor store and later shot themselves to death were also suspects in a home burglary earlier this week, Oshkosh authorities said.
Randy T. Lamb, 29, and Ashley R. Luka, 28, died Wednesday during a standoff with sheriff's deputies in Winnebago County. Authorities said the two had stolen about $600 from a liquor store a few hours earlier.
The pair also was suspected of stealing jewelry from a home in Vinland on Tuesday, but they died before deputies could interview them, Sheriff's Capt. David Mack told Oshkosh Northwestern Media (http://oshko.sh/19565P2 ).
Lamb robbed a liquor store at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon and fled in a vehicle with Luka, Mack said. A deputy stopped their vehicle on Highway 41 and called for backup because he knew a handgun was involved.
An officer tried to talk to the pair over a loudspeaker, and the two also were contacted by cellphone. During initial attempts to negotiate, Lamb and Luka began making suicidal comments. Luka appeared to be a willing participant in the events leading up to the standoff, Mack said.
More than two hours after the robbery, tactical officers heard two gunshots from inside the pair's vehicle. Officers approached and saw the two had suffered gunshot wounds to the head, Mack said. Lamb and Luka were both from Neenah.
An Oshkosh police investigation concluded that no deputy fired a weapon, and Lamb and Luka committed suicide using the one handgun that was in the vehicle, police Capt. Kelly Kent said.
