Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike McFadden took a turn Tuesday greeting visitors at the Minnesota GOP booth.

“Hi, my name is Mike McFadden and I am running for U.S. Senate,” he said to fairgoers ducking out of the sweltering 90-degree heat. “Hi, my name is Mike McFadden.”

McFadden’s youngest son, Danny, 10, joined his dad during the two-hour meet-and-greet. McFadden also came to the fair to do interviews on a couple radio shows.

Wearing a yellow polo shirt and khaki shorts, said fairgoers “are frustrated and concerned with Congress.”

“As an outsider, running for office, it’s a candidacy they are very attracted to,” McFadden said. “My pledge to them is that I will go and get things done.”

McFadden is challenging first-term U.S. Sen. Al Franken, a Democrat who is vying for another term.

Franken has kept his head down in Congress and stayed in the background, McFadden said.

“I am going to provide leadership and not be quiet and keep my head down, but lead on issues and try to get things done,” McFadden said.
