They were nominally co-headliners. Or at least Dwight Yoakam received more time – 70 minutes -- than your typical opening act. Then Sheryl Crow played for 90 minutes at the State Fair grandstand on Sunday.
Both, of course, had performed in the area, at casinos, earlier this year. Yoakam did a generous 110 minutes at Treasure Island in January, and Crow offered a headline set at Mystic Lake in late June that was very similar to her State Fair playlist. By contrast, Yoakam cut a couple of chunks from the middle of his Treasure Island set list – mostly tunes from 2012’s excellent “3 Pears.”
Here are their set lists from the State Fair:
Steve McQueen/ All I Wanna Do/ Easy (new song)/ Favorite Mistake/ Calling Me When I’m Lonely (new)/ A Change Will Do You Good/ Can’t Cry Anymore/ Real Gone/ Best of Times (new)/ The First Cut Is the Deepest (Cat Stevens)/ Strong Enough/ Shotgun (new)/ Picture > If It Makes You Happy/ Soak Up the Sun/ Everyday Is a Winding Road ENCORE Give It to Me (new)/ Rock and Roll (Led Zeppelin)
Take Hold of My Hand/ Please Please Baby/ Little Sister (Elvis Presley)/ Streets of Bakersfield (Buck Owens)/ Turn It On Turn It Up Let Me Loose (Buck Owens/ Act Naturally (Buck Owens) > Turn It On Turn It Up reprise/ Blame the Vain/ Ain’t That Lonely Yet/ Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash)/ Dim Lights, Thick Smoke/ Honky Tonk Man/ A Thousand Miles from Nowhere/ It Only Hurts When I Cry/ Little Ways/ Guitars Cadillacs/ Fast As You ENCORE A Heart Like Mine/ Long White Cadillac
