A Sherburne County man was killed when he was trapped beneath a cabin where he was working in northern Minnesota Saturday.

Randy Sayler, 45, of Big Lake died in the incident in Lavell Township, about 15 miles southeast of Hibbing, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

Sayler was one of several people working on the foundation of the cabin shortly after 5 p.m. in an attempt to level the structure when a beam collapsed, trapping him beneath the cabin.

Sayler was freed when an officer cut a hole in the floor, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff's Office said.
