The meeting of the Advisory Committee on Capitol Security was supposed to be about guns at the Capitol, but it turned out to also be about who is on the committee.

Committee member Rep. Michael Paymar, DFL-St. Paul, said he heard that another House member had been appointed to replace him, but had not been informed of the change by House Speaker Paul Thissen.

"This is the first that I've heard," he said. "I think my voice is valuable here. I'll stay until I hear otherwise."

Michael Howard, a spokesman for Thissen, said it appears two House DFLers -- Paymar and Rep. Carolyn Laine, DFL-Columbia Heights --had been nominated, when only one House DFLer serves on the Committee. He said the issue was being ironed out.

"It's likely that Representative Paymar is going to be our person," he said.
