The fair that has been a Minnesota staple since 1871 began on Wednesday with a 4-H horse show, parade, preteen talent show, music and carnival rides. The fair, which ends on Sunday, features family fun day on Thursday; senior citizens’ day on Friday; fire safety day on Saturday; and All-American day on Sunday. Above, Audrey Anderson, 8, of Lake Elmo, tried to walk on water inside a large plastic ball. At right, families watched as pigs ran in the daily Swinetime pig race for a reward anyone would love — a cookie.
