The Lakers introduced ex-Wolves No. 4 overall pick Wesley Johnson today. Johnson was a nice guy when he was here, and he showed some promise as a rookie. Then Year 2 was a disaster, he went to Phoenix where things didn't get a whole lot better, and now he's trying to redeem himself.
No ill will to Wesley. Maybe it works out for him. He said all the right things today, and Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak had fairly basic quotes here.
But there was a tweet from Mike Trudell, who works for Lakers.com (and used to work for the Wolves) that really caught our eye:
According to LAL spokesman John Black, Mitch Kupchak said he thinks Johnson could develop into a Michael Cooper/Trevor Ariza type player.— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) July 18, 2013
If you're scoring at home, that's the Cooper who was a lockdown defender and key cog for the ultra-successful Showtime Lakers of the 1980s. Or the Ariza who started 20 games and was a key role player for the 2008-09 championship Lakers.
