Grocers, please take note! One of my pet peeves is the unsanitary conditions of bulk item bins at grocery stores; they are simply irresistible to children (and some adults). How many of you have seen children sticking their bare hands into one of these bins and playing around? It happened again at the grand opening of the Whole Foods store in Maple Grove. One of the first things I saw when entering the store was a child with her hand in a bin, and the mother was standing right next to her watching.

Think about this before making a bulk purchase. Yes, it even happens at Whole Foods, a company that looks for locations with "high incomes and highly educated people" ("Whole Foods multiplies," July 18).
