There’s a place for us

The Disney Channel attempts to jump-start another “High School Musical” franchise with “Teen Beach Movie” (7 p.m. Friday, Disney), in which two young surfers catch the wrong wave and wind up in the world of “West Side Story.” I guess that’s preferable to landing in “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.”

Down on the farm

“Bulloch Family Ranch” (9 p.m. Friday, UP) pays tribute to the surrogate parents of 25 kids who are too busy milking cows to get wrapped up in their troubled former lives. UP, which stands for “uplifting,” was formerly known as the Gospel Music Channel, which means no singing allowed while doing chores.

Here comes the judge

Andie MacDowell trades in sex, lies and videotape for truth, honor and justice as a small-town judge in “Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove” (7 p.m. Saturday, Hallmark), the channel’s first prime-time series. Sounds a lot like “Judging Amy,” but without the shrill lectures from Tyne Daly.

Holding out for a hero

Fox TV previews its plans to dominate the weekends via more animation with sneak previews of “Axe Cop” and “High School USA!” (8:30 p.m. Sunday, KMSP, Ch. 9), two cartoon series strictly drawn for adults. “Cop” is particularly addictive, thanks to Nick Offerman’s deadpan take on a modern-day superhero.
