AFTER-WORK SUCCESS: Becky Hanson Welter of Medina caught and released this 28-inch walleye after work on Gull Lake. "After about an hour of fishing, my bobber went under," she said. "At first my husband thought it was a northern, but when we got a glimpse of it, we knew I had a big walleye. It was only the third walleye I have ever caught."

RIVER BASS

Soren Oyen Kung, 9, of Minneapolis caught this 16-inch largemouth bass on a spinner bait while drift-fishing the Otter Tail River. The bass was a diver, not a jumper, so Soren ended up with a furious fight in fast current.
