In a column earlier this month I told you to be on the lookout for MnDOT's new 511 mobile app. Now it's available.
The free app for smartphones has been available since Friday and allows motorists to get information on construction, maintenance, crashes and road incidents that affect travel. It's the same type of information that is available on MnDOT's 511 web site.
The app also allows users to check traffic cameras and check current road conditions.
While motorists might be tempted to access information while driving, MnDOT says don't. Before downloading the app from the Apple store or from Google Play store, users are asked to agree "not to use this application while driving."
"The 511 mobile app is intended to be used before motorists hit the road and should never be used while driving," said Freeway Operations Engineer Brian Kary.
The app also allows users to access Google's traffic data that helps motorists determine how much time a trip will take.
