In a bit of a head-scratcher that ultimately would mean Andrei Kirilenko left millions on the table this season, it is being reported that he has agreed to sign with the Nets for $3.1 million (Vecsey later tweeted to clarify this was an agreement and not a signing yet).
This just in: Nets have signed. Kirilenko for mini mid-level, 3.1M per— Peter Vecsey (@PeterVecsey1) July 11, 2013
Kirilenko, you'll recall, exercised his player option to get out of the $10 million he was owed in the final year of his deal with the Wolves. Perhaps the lure of playing with the Nets -- trying to win it all this year, and owned by fellow Russian Mikhail Prokhorov -- outweighed a paycheck with a team that will battle for the No. 8 seed in the West.
Maybe Kirilenko didn't really like it here.
Or maybe he really messed up when it came to his worth.
Regardless, you can say the Nets got a bargain or that the Wolves dodged a bullet ... or both.
