LOS ANGELES – The Lynx and the Los Angeles Sparks met for a third time this season on Tuesday. And the story line was the same as in the first two games: Home team wins in a blowout.
The Sparks routed the Western Conference-leading Lynx 96-66 at Staples Center after taking a 22-points lead at halftime. Candace Parker, a 6-4 forward for Los Angeles, scored 21 of her game-high 27 points in the opening half.
The Lynx shot 52 percent in the first half to L.A.’s 60 percent. The Lynx (7-3) were within 25-21 of L.A. after the first quarter, but the Sparks outscored the Lynx 35-18 in the second to take control.
The Sparks have a 16-game unbeaten streak in regular-season games at home, going back to June 28 of last year. They are 6-0 at home this season, 0-4 on the road, including a 24-point loss this past Friday at Target Center
Guard Lindsay Whalen had 19 points to lead the Lynx while forward Rebekkah Brunson had 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Besides Parker, two other Sparks also were in double figures. Guard Kristi Tolliver scored 14 points and forward Nneka Ogwumike had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
