NEWPORT, R.I. — A new high-speed ferry service will soon link Newport and Block Island.
The Block Island Ferry is scheduled to begin the new service on Saturday. The ferry will depart from Perrotti Park in downtown Newport three times a day, at 9 a.m., 12:05 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
Ferries will depart Block Island for Newport twice a day, at 10:30 a.m. and 5:05 p.m.
Travel time will be about an hour and 10 minutes.
The service is scheduled to run through Sept. 2.
An open house and ribbon cutting to mark the new service on the M/V Islander is planned for Friday in Newport.
