Minnesota scene: Late goals rally Carolina to victory over United FC

Brian Shriver scored two goals in the final four minutes, rallying the Carolina RailHawks to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota United FC in an NASL match on Saturday night in Cary, N.C.
Shriver’s goals at 85:59 and 87:54 boosted the RailHawks to 5-1-4 and dropped United to 4-4-2.
Minnesota led 2-0 in the first half on goals by Simone Bracalello at 3:17 and Pablo Campos at 9:12.
Carolina cut the lead to 2-1 on Floyd Franks’ penalty kick goal at 24:14 of the first half.
Cheever takes fourth; Ewen wins junior title
Jamie Cheever of Team USA Minnesota finished fourth in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Des Moines. Cheever’s time of 9 minutes, 53.01 seconds was a little more than eight seconds behind winner Nicole Bush. The three finishers in each event qualify for the World Championships in Russia in August.
• Maggie Ewen, who just finished her senior season at St. Francis High School, won the national junior discus title with a throw of 179 feet, 6 inches.
Holm, Bisek win titles
Jordan Holm of Minneapolis and Andy Bisek of Chaska won their weight classes at the U.S. World Team trials for Greco-Roman wrestling, earning places on the team that will compete at wrestling’s world championships in September in Budapest, Hungary.
Holm, who won the U.S. Open title earlier this year, swept Peter Hicks in the best-of-three finals of the 84-kilogram class Friday in Stillwater, Okla. Holm pinned Hicks in their first match and took a 7-0 victory in the second. Bisek swept Jon Anderson 10-1 and 9-2 in Saturday’s finals of the 74kg class. Holm made the world championships team for the first time, while Bisek finished 20th at the 2011 worlds.
