MADISON, Wis. — Well-known Wisconsin wrestlers are joining with state lawmakers in supporting a resolution calling for wrestling to remain an Olympic event.

The state Assembly on Wednesday unanimously approved a resolution calling on the International Olympic Committee to keep wrestling in the Olympics. The Senate approved the resolution Tuesday.

One of those who came to the Assembly to show his support was Andy Rein, a 1984 Olympic silver medalist and head coach of the University of Wisconsin wrestling team from 1987 to 1993. Also there was Ben Peterson, who won an Olympic gold medal in 1972 and a silver medal in 1976. Two others who wrestled in the Olympics, Lee Kemp and Jim Haines, were also present.

Wrestling is on a short list for removal from the 2020 Games.
