Each week, commenter RandBallsStu (branding!) tracks down a former Minnesota sports figure about whom you might have forgotten. This week's selection is also timely! Stu?

The Hunt Down

Name: Steven Daniel Hunt
Nickname: Shooter
Claim to Fame, Minnesota: as Minnesota Twins fans salivate over the potential of minor league prospects like Byron Buxton, Miguel Sano and a slew of others, and as they prepare to add another high draft pick on Thursday, it’s a good idea to pump the brakes, reconsider that “BUX LIFE” tattoo across your abdomen, and remember the already memorable name of Shooter Hunt.  Hunt, a right-handed power arm, was taken in the first round of the 2008 draft, just 17 picks after your current Twins center fielder, Aaron Hicks.  It thrilled local seamheads when the highly touted prospect fell to Minnesota at the 31st pick and proceeded to strike out just about everyone in rookie ball.  The reason he fell to the Twins were concerns over his control, which he exhibited when he moved up to Class A ball and walked just about everyone instead.  The control problems never went away, he never advanced past that level, was left unprotected by the Twins after the 2011 season, and selected by the Cardinals in the Rule 5 draft that winter.  He is no longer in professional baseball.
Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: he gained his first-round status thanks to a brilliant 2008 season with Tulane University, when he was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, striking out 128 batters in 16 starts. (Your joke about the Twins current starting pitchers has been noted.  Please try harder.)
Where He Is Now: he is back at Tulane, where he was brought on as a volunteer assistant to the baseball team for the 2013 season.
Is He on Twitter: yes.  Like local radio hothead Dana Wessel, Hunt enjoyed the movie Pitch Perfect.
Has He Been in a Twitter Fight with Patrick Reusse: no.
Glorious Randomness: Hunt attended Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes, N.J., which also counts Danny Tamberelli (Little Pete from the Adventures of Pete & Pete) as an alumnus.  Here’s a picture of Michael Stipe as that show’s Captain Scrummy.
