Virginia

Driver likely had medical condition

Authorities believe the driver who plowed into dozens of hikers marching in a Virginia mountain town parade suffered from a medical condition and did not cause the crash intentionally. Officials based the assessment on accounts from authorities and witnesses on the scene. Two people were kept at hospitals overnight, but their injuries were not critical as of Sunday. The crash happened during the Hikers Parade at the Trail Days festival, an annual celebration of the Appalachian Trail.

North Korea

North again fires short-range missile

North Korea launched a short-range projectile into waters off its east coast, as South Korea condemned the North's provocations and urged it to accept a proposal for dialogue. North Korea conducted three similar launchings in the same area Saturday, rattling the region where governments have hoped for an easing of tensions. South Korea fears North Korea's artillery and multiple-rocket launchers, which are massed along the border with the South.
