• Deibinson Romero, his season delayed six weeks due to visa problems in the Dominican Republic, was cleared to play after a week in extended spring training and was assigned to Class AA New Britain, where he spent the past two seasons. The delay likely cost him a promotion to Class AAA Rochester to start the season.

• Drew Butera should be able to take part in extended spring training games sometime in the next week, with hopes of being activated by Rochester by the end of the month, assistant GM Rob Antony said. The catcher broke his left hand when he was hit by a pitch on his first at-bat of the season.

• New Britain catcher Josmil Pinto, a 24-year-old Venezuelan who signed when he was 17, was second in the Eastern League in home runs (eight) and tied for first in RBI (32).
