Metro-area Catholic high school conference talks end
- May 17, 2013 - 7:51 AM
Don’t expect a new all-Catholic conference of metro-area high schools any time soon.
Activities directors from seven Catholic schools met Thursday at DeLaSalle High School to discuss the possibility of forming a conference, in part a response to recent conference changes and the difficulty some are having finding a right competitive fit. But those discussions quickly dissolved.
“Given the differences in the sizes of Catholic schools in the metro area and the different programming, we felt a Catholic school conference was not possible,’’ said Jerry Pettinger, activities director at Benilde-St. Margaret’s. “But we will continue to talk about scheduling each other during the season.”
Of eight schools invited to the meeting, Cretin-Derham Hall opposed the idea and did not attend. Hill-Murray and Totino-Grace, both of which are in conferences that plan to dissolve, also went into the meeting opposed to the concept.
Other schools invited to attend by DeLaSalle President Barry Lieske were St. Thomas Academy, Holy Family of Victoria and Holy Angels.
