The release of veteran punter Chris Kluwe is by far the biggest news on the Vikings’ transaction front. But today the team has also announced the signings of receiver Adam Thielen and offensive tackle Brandon Keith.
To clear roster room for those players, the Vikings have also released receiver Nicholas Edwards, whom they’d signed as an undrafted free agent last week.
Thielen was one of 34 players invited to the rookie mini-camp over the weekend for a tryout and did enough to catch the Vikings’. He is a rookie out of Minnesota State University who led the Mavericks last season with 74 catches for 1,176 yards and eight TDs. He is one of two former Minnesota State receivers now on the Vikings’ 90-man roster, joining LeMark Brown, whose career with the Mavericks ended in 2011. Both players still remain longshots to make the team’s 53-man roster for the fall.
Keith, meanwhile, is a veteran offensive lineman who played in 26 games and made 20 starts for Arizona from 2008-2011. He was a seventh-round draft choice by the Cardinals coming out of Northern Iowa in 2008. He was not in the NFL last season.
